Love Shared in Liturgy and Lectio Divina:
Ways to Deepen
Married Life
in Christ

Communicating heart to heart can be a challenge in
marriage. While the early days of falling in love makes it easy for lovers
to open up their hearts to each other, years of being together can slow down
that rich process of speaking heart to heart. Because Jesus lives in
the heart and reveals our hearts to us, we can open our hearts to others by
sharing how we experience Him. Two powerful ways to experience Jesus
are in Sacred Scripture and the Sacred Liturgy.
Lectio divina is an ancient practice of
praying with Scripture. It helps to open up the Scripture in reference
to one's own life and in this way serves to open the heart to God's grace.
By sharing lectio divina, married couples can learn to share their
hearts with each other by sharing how God is speaking to each one through
Scripture. We will take time throughout the weekend for couples to
take time doing lectio together and sharing their experience with
each other.
The Sacred Liturgy (the Holy Mass and Liturgy of the
Hours) is the love song of Christ and the Church. It is the Lovers'
dance, par excellence. Often the riches of love that are opened in the
Liturgy are lost on us. In talks and through experiences of the
Liturgy, we will deepen our understanding of what is really happening at
Mass and in the Liturgy of the Hours. By deepening love with God
through the liturgy, spouses will be able to deepen their love for each
other as well.
