Come and See The Monastic Way for Today

Dispossession is to Live by the Lord’s Strength

We are called to surrender ourselves, hand ourselves over, to be possessed by another, by God.  This process of dispossession really goes on in everyone’s life sooner or later.  As we approach old age and illness, we can do less and less for ourselves.  In this sense, our monastic life is an anticipation of death.  We give up our very selves that we may be possessed by God.  Our weaknesses are what attract God.  By willingly embracing our human condition, our weaknesses of body and soul, we are preparing ourselves for the visitation of the Lord.  Page 143
