The First Responsibility of Monastic Life is to Love

“The first responsibility of those called to monastic life is to love with all their heart.  Monastic professions presupposes this love and expresses it exteriorly by incorporating the monk or nun into a state of life which has no other reason for existing than the love of Christ.  The monk is a lover, not secretly and not only interiorly and spiritually, but also exteriorly, publicly.”  pg 15
