Passion of the Lamb

Christ Is Vulnerable for Us

Jesus scandalized his own listeners, as some persons are scandalized today, in describing how concretely he has given himself to us (see John 6:41-46).  He has not only become one flesh with us but has given himself – body, blood, soul, and divinity, as the Council of Trent solemnly defined – to be eaten and drunk and taken into our own flesh and blood.  Now, that is intimacy, that is vulnerability, and that is passion, as concrete, as explicit and as personal as possible.  Page 84
