Passion of the Lamb

Let Scripture Speak as a Whole

I am inclined to believe that the core of this Gospel [Gospel of John] was written much earlier than is usually assumed and that it reflects a fairly complete self-revelation of Jesus to those most intimate to him, including his most beloved disciple. The church has always believed that all these Scriptures are inspired; moreover, the Pontifical Biblical Commission has reminded us that it is wrong to layer the value of certain Scriptures because of the hypothesized age or authorship.  A canonical approach to Scripture is better; this takes Scripture as a whole and lets it speak as a whole.      Page 76
