2013 August 29 - Putting Work into Perspective

Our own western monastic traditions have stressed the importance of detachment from work. In the monastery we take what we get and we do our task for God, trusting in his assistance. If we are asked to drop what we are about and to do something else for God, we can do so without a mental breakdown or prolonged depression. The failure of a work project does not mean the collapse of our world, because the horizon of our world extends farther than our work project. (page 53)
