Thoughts for Reflection from Benedictine & Monastic Authors

Day by Day

2013 August 7 - God Across the Ages

Now, let us rightly say to ourselves that in our day the heart of God is not less loving, nor His arm less powerful. God is ready to lavish on us graces, I do not say extraordinary in character, but as abundant and as useful as upon the first Christians. His love for us is not less than it was for them. All the means of sanctification they had, we possess: and we have in addition, to encourage us, the example of the saints who have followed Christ. But we are too often like the leper, come to consult the prophet and beg from him a cure: he almost failed to obtain it because he found the remedy too simple. (page 38)
