Making God the Object of Our Desire

Classic religion is about being set free from the idolatry of people, objects, and techniques.  It is about being set free from the constantly shifting sands of human desire.  In classic religion you do not pick and choose; you learn a whole way of life.  Religion offers us an educative process that helps us to see the whole of life in a different way.  The way that Christian faith invites us to undertake this educative process is not just by persuading us to believe that God exists.  The creed invites us to say.  β€œI believe in God.”  By the addition of β€œin” the Christian faith invites us to make God the object of our desire and of our worship  Page 146
