Thoughts for Reflection from Benedictine & Monastic Authors

Christ Wants Us to Participate
Faith involves us in the passion of Christ for those who are hungry. It does not remain cognitive or intentional but becomes concrete. The spiritual hunger of the crowd is deeper than its physical hunger, and the desire to satisfy this spiritual hunger is why they have remained so long without food for the body. We must act in faith together with Jesus to satisfy this need for spiritual and physical food, not because he can’t do without us but because he wants us to participate. Even in becoming flesh, the eternal Word was born of a woman rather than simply dropping out of heaven. Again, he wanted a most privileged one of us to participate! Page 52
