Lectio Lights from the Monastery

Reflections for the Day

Lights from Our Lectio:
The Gospel applied using the Prism of the Rule of St. Benedict

I am the light of the world (John 8:12).  The Gospel captures the light of Christ so that we might meet Him and see ourselves and our world through the light of His love and being.

St. Benedict applies the Gospel to daily living; through the prism of his Rule, separating the light of Christ into “various colors” as through a prism, allowing us to experience the light of Christ in various, pragmatic ways.

May you find the light of Christ further refracted through our prayer and lectio, enlightening your mind and warming for your heart.

19th Week in Ordinary Time

”...And if he find it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.  There is much rejoicing in heaven when we return to the Lord from our sinfulness.  Overcoming temptations and sinfulness isn’t easy—especially when those things are often in our sight and encouraged by the society that we live in.

And yet, we have one of the most powerful things on earth to help us:  the Eucharist!  Jesus invites us daily to the altar to receive his precious Body and Blood to strengthen us.  And when we do fall, Jesus invites us to come to Him in contrition and experience her mercy through the tremendous gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Today, take a few moments to ask Christ’s forgiveness for those times you have strayed and seek out an opportunity in the near future to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
