"All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matt 25:35)"
We hope these photos begin to give a taste of the St Emma experience: a glimpse of our nuns, a glimpse of our liturgies, the natural peaceful setting always made more beautiful with each passing season, some of the “happenings” — events involving the broader St Emma community and the public, and aspects and dimensions of St. Emma Monastery not specifically featured elsewhere in this website.
What is monastic life like at St Emma? What do the nuns do all day? Externally, our day is much like yours: we get up in the morning and pray, eat, work, rest, and pray. However, we have vowed our life to God so that everything that we are, have and do are offered to God in a deliberate way. We hope you enjoy these photos that are worth a “thousand words.”
A charism of our consecrated life is sanctifying time by praying The Liturgy of the Hourssix times a day in the name of the Church, uniting ourselves with Christ’s prayer for the whole world. Daily and Sunday Mass are also celebrated in our Cor Jesu Chapel. We invite you to join us.
Everyone is created with an emptiness, a longing that only God can satisfy. Our retreats offer the opportunity for opening oneself to the living God, listening to His voice, and finding peace in His presence.
Besides coming for retreat, the public is also cordially invited to participate in events throughout the year. These events give individuals who would not normally consider coming to the monastery and reason to do so. These photos will either recall to mind how much you enjoyed one or another event or will whet you appetite for the next time around.
The Seasons are such a wonderful blessing! They correspond so wonderfully with the Liturgical Calendar, preparing the mind and heart for the Birth and Resurrection; the growth and the harvest; the shortening days and our own mortality; and the longing for new life. They give us much to learn from and to contemplate.
Our Gift & Book Shop offers the range of things common to living the Faith: from celebrating Sacraments to rosaries and scapulars; indoor and outdoor statues to patron saint medals; Bibles and books on monasticism, spirituality, children and the Church. When you visit plan to stay a while and browse.
